The Family Tree Portrait Project

Capturing Generations in Paint

Time moves forward, but stories remain. My Family Tree Portrait Project is my way of preserving those stories—one brushstroke at a time.

I’ve always been drawn to the idea of capturing not just faces, but legacies. This project began as a deeply personal endeavor: painting my own family tree, from my daughter all the way back to my great-grandparents. Each portrait is a window into a life once lived, a moment frozen in time before it fades from memory.

With every painting, I reconnect with the people who came before me. I see my great-grandmother Anna Maria, a fisherman’s wife who never set foot on a boat but dreamed of the sea. I see my great-grandfather Nils, who carried the weight of his past yet built a life filled with love. Their faces—once only black-and-white photographs—now live again in color, in oil on canvas.

A Family Heirloom in Paint

This project has shown me the power of art to bridge generations. A painted portrait is more than an image—it’s an heirloom, a tangible connection to those who came before us.

If you feel the same pull to preserve your family’s story, I would love to bring it to life for you. Whether you have a single treasured photograph or a series of ancestors you’d like to honor, I can create custom heirloom portraits that celebrate your lineage.

Commission Your Own Family Tree Portrait

If you’re interested in commissioning a portrait as part of your own family tree—whether of a single ancestor or a collection of generations—I would be honored to work with you.

Each portrait is:
🎨 Hand-painted in oil, ensuring timeless quality
📜 Based on historical photographs, with care taken to restore details
🖼️ A unique keepsake to be passed down for generations

Let’s preserve your family’s story together.
